Masseter- Elevates the mandible (closes the mouth)- Maxillary process zygomatic bone
- Inferomedial zygomatic arch
- Mandibular angle
- Ramus of the mandible
- Coronoid process of mandible
- Mandibular branch of trigeminal nerve: (cranial nerve V)- Facial artery
Temporalis- Elevates the mandible (closes the mouth)
- Retract mandible (posterior horizontal fibres)
- Temporal line of parietal bone
- Temporal surface of sphenoid bone
- Coronoid process of mandible
- Ramus of mandible
- Mandibular branch of trigeminal nerve: (cranial nerve V)- Facial artery
- Maxillary artery
Lateral Pterygoid- Bilateral action: protraction of mandible
- Unilateral action: side-side jaw movements
- Superior head: infratemporal crest of greater wing of sphenoid bone
- Inferior head: Lateral plate of the pterygoid process
- Conjoined tendon to neck of mandible- Mandibular branch of trigeminal nerve: (cranial nerve V)- Maxillary artery
Medial Pterygoid- Elevates mandible (closes the mouth)- Superficial head: Maxilla
- Deep head: lateral pterygoid plate of sphenoid bone
- Ramus of mandible- Mandibular branch of trigeminal nerve: (cranial nerve V)- Facial artery
- Mandibular artery
