NameOriginInsertionFunction
Lateral (fibular) collateral ligament- Lateral epicondyle of femur- Head of fibula- Stabilise lateral side of knee joint
- Limits varus stress on knee joint
Medial (tibial) collateral ligament- Medial epicondyle of femur- Medial condyle of tibia- Stabilise medial side of knee joint
- Limits valgus stress on knee joint
Anterior cruciate ligament- Lateral condyle of femur- Intercondyloid eminence of tibia- Stabilise the knee joint
- Prevents anterior translation of tibia on the femur
- Limits lateral rotation of tibia
Posterior cruciate ligament- Posterior intercondylar ridge of tibia- Medial condyle fo femur- Stabilses the knee
- Prevents posterior translation of the tibia on the femur
- Limits lateral rotation of tibia
Patellar ligament (or tendon)- Patella - Tibial tuberosity- Directs force generated by quadriceps to the tibia
- Stabilises the patellofemoral joint
Oblique popliteal ligament- Lateral epicondyle of femur- Medial condyle of tibia- Stabilises the posterior part of knee joint
- Limits lateral rotation of tibia
Arcuate popliteal ligament- Head of fibula- Articular capsule of knee- Stabilises the posterior part of knee joint
